Concept Albums

Concept albums are weird right?Like in theory they should be rather simple make a story using music throughout an album, this should be simple but you see it being failed as telling a story isn't the only worry when making an album, the music itself still has to be good any one can write a story but not everyone can make a good one i mean look at any of my posts as an example. They are the ramblings of an insane person who's just writing bs without a care in the world for spelling or grammar (tbf unlike my reviews for WWE i am pre writing this before putting it in the code so) Anyway i just wanna post something in my music corner section so have my essentially 0 research opinion piece on what actually makes a concept album where i will probably get distracted halfway and change subjects.

So what started this rather ridiculous idea was walking the dogs listening to Diva Bleaches debut album Can You Keep A Secret where my brain started to do brain things and start weaving a story between the songs of it being the perspective of 2 girls and bla bla bunch of bs i CBA to type but that brings me onto the point of this post what is a concept album? Sure some albums are so clearly a woven story i mean My chemical romances 4th studio album Danger Days is such a clear story that Gerard (our lord and saviour) even made a comic of the killjoys, the titular group of bandits throughout the album but other albums are not so clear i only recently found out Green Day’s 7th studio album American idiot is considered a concept album or as Green Day themselves put it a “punk rock opera”.

But this moves onto the main point, I myself never put together that American idiot is a concept album now is this because I am stupid, yes probably, but at the same time what's stopping me from flipping that on its head. Why can I not go on and saying other albums dont have a story buried within them is this not what we all complained about with English teachers making you read between the lines when there's clearly nothing there. Most albums will be similar in themes and topics because that makes for a good album i dont want to be depressed listening to cancer by MCR then jump to happy by Pharrel Williams no matter how much spotify thinks I do and it's not as if people have not done this before. Hot fuss, debut album for The Killers ended up being seen as a murder trilogy of songs by fans who saw a story woven that was not originally intended by the band from my memory at least and while this is mainly connected to only three songs not the full album people have also tried to stretch this theory across all the songs and in doing so turning it into a concept album. This brings me back to my main point what is a concept album like many things in music it is so loosely defined you can apply it to many things if your creative enough nut i have not borrowed enough of my friends weed to think this much and i just remembered i now have to code all this onto my site fuck me.
